Give her these reading suggestions and see if she's as good as her word:
- The Gentile Times Reconsidered.
- Crisis of Conscience.
- In Search of Christian Freedom.
an active witness on fb just told me that they are taught to "always question what we are taught" and use not only the wt publications, but any research materials, and come to a conclusion about what they find!
this is not what i've heard from you guys!
does she go to some unusual-type kingdom hall, or is she mesing with my mind?.
Give her these reading suggestions and see if she's as good as her word:
as jehovahs witnesses we were taught that the truth (belief) unifies every aspect of our lives and is of paramount importance.
are other like religions like this also?
do they emphasize belief to the same extent?.
Freedom to THINK is one of the many benefits of this site Concerned JW. You may (or may not) have noticed that freedom of thought is highly discouraged by the WTS. Remember the KM article in recent years banning group bible study, discussion or anything that might lead to independant thought?
Why might that be I hear you ask (you did ask didn't you)? Because the ones who become "apostate" (WTS specification, not the bibles) are the ones who DO real research, bible study, and thinking! So they wanted it stopped. These are the WTS MO:
Doubts? Don't voice or share them.
Questions? We dont want to know.
You have found something we missed or got wrong? Share it and you will be disfellowshipped.
Try 607 as the destruction of Jerusalem for size. I dare you. I double dare you.
Welcome to the forum btw
so during my research on the wts, i stubled across a link to the july 15th watchtower.. .
http://download.jw.org/files/media_magazines/w_e_20110715.pdf.
i'm assuming that the study editions are the ones that they only give to members/ those who attend meetings.. .
Yes they's all like that, or worse. Obey, obey, obey, guilt, guilt, guilt, fear, fear ...well you get the picture.
But while under the mind control the fog is thick and the mind numbed, so these now oh so obvious control techniques (loaded language etc) pass mostly unnoticed.
having been a born in for 44 years i can say yes to this question.
my 2 sisters and 1 brother and my dad have nothing to do with my family now we have made our stand against the jw's.
i was always downtrodden at school for been a jw.
Another Yes here, and bloody livid about it.
Well maybe not livid, but certainly pissed off that I didn't get out a lot sooner than 42. Now starting to pick up my life and LIVE it instead of procrastinating it away waiting for soething that is NOT going to happen in my lifetime. (if at all)
i find the board is getting very unfriendly of late.
used to be great to be aboard.
but the snipping that so many.
I blame all the agro on the Uber Pentecostal, kick ban his ass and this place will be a much happier place... LOL
I think it's died down now tbh...
Welcome back Mouthy
(Sheepishly enters the love fest)
Shelby I can honestly say that I have also been moved by some of your recent posts, including the one highlighted here.
I won't say anything else here in case i ruin it so I'll leave it at that LOL.
this is my first time on the forum.
i read somewhere on this forum that there is "no such thing as a prophetic year".
that this concept was invented by the society.
Not invented by C.T.Russell or JWs at all... just adopted like the rest of the 2520 day / year stuff from N.H.Barbour. The 360 day prophetic year goes way way back many hundreds of years though, as many were trying to make the 1260 days fit for many many years.
Read The Gentile Times Reconsidered for a lot more info on its history. Other things to look into are The Millerites and the Adventist movements that branched off from that, that ultimately resulted in The Bible Students / Jehovahs Witnesses.
Welcome to the forum.
outsmart - you keep mentioning the imperfections of the elders....and how people need to overlook them because we are all imperfect and we need to learn what true humility is.....etc etc.
dj - if this is what you believe to be true, then you are mistaken, because even though jehovah's witnesses are directed by holy spirit, we have at times 'gotten it wrong.
dj - i can agree that jehovah's witnesses are god's mouthpiece today, that we do speak for god.
So your being here is ALL about YOU and YOUR WINNING arguments then. ....OK glad we cleared that up.
Egg is not your correct name, it is EGO.
LOL Mingle FAIL....
todays text is matthew 18:17 ...speak to the congregation.
